A Cultural Fusion Wedding at Big Picture Farm in Townshend, Vermont

Never in a million years would we have thought Ukrainian and Indian culture would merge together so perfectly, but one sunny Saturday on a goat farm D and A (names omitted for privacy reasons) did exactly that. We were thrilled when D and A reached out to us about hosting a food and culture centered wedding at our dear friends’ Louisa and Lucas’ homestead- Big Picture Farm. We’d spent many good times at parties, goat meet and greets, sleep-overs in the farmhouse, and even a three-day-long photography workshop that Sarah co-hosted last year. It was wonderful watching the property come alive with D and A’s friends and family, the smoke from the open-fire-cooked food crafted by other buddies Brownsville Butcher surrounding the land with pleasant smelling smoke, and the lights hung all over the property and from lanterns light up the field and forest as day turned into dusk.

Our favorite part of D and A’s day was how they honored their families and heritages by incorporating so many traditions into their day. We loved seeing saris and vyshyvankas side by side, and tried to pronounce traditional Indian and Ukrainian toasts along with D and A’s guests during a meal of roasted goat, pierogis, curry, and naan.

Throughout the process of wedding planning, we became fast friends with D and A and love their passion for travel, food and family and their quick and easy sense of humor. We were so looking forward to their unique wedding day and it didn’t disappoint!
