Susannah and James' Exuberantly Joyful Camp Wedding at Lanakila and Aloha Hive Camps in Fairlee Vermont

Both longtime campers and counselors at camps on different lakes in the same town, Susannah and James were fixtures and legends at their respective summer camps when they met each other at an inner-camp gathering. They have siblings, parents, aunts, cousins, and grandparents that grew up going to the same lakeside camps in Fairlee, Vermont, and until this summer (which they’re taking off to go on an epic honeymoon), they’ve spent every summer either attending or working at the Aloha Foundation camps. So, of course it was 100% obvious that they’d get married where they’d grown up, learned to sail and be better swimmers, sang hundreds of silly songs, had their first jobs and spent many summers away from their consecutive jobs working, fell in love and got engaged.

We think the detail that best describes who Susannah and James are as a couple are the placecards they made for of their 180 or so guests. Each place card was more like an actual card, with a long, hand-written thank-you note with details about their individual relationship. We loved watching guests be shocked and touched as they opened the card and realized the work and love Susannah and James had poured out just for them.

To honor both their camps, the ceremony was held at Aloha Hive- Susannah’s camp, and the reception took place at Lanakila- James’ camp. We also had the pleasure of photographing an open mic night held the night before their wedding in the Lanakila barn, where Susannah let her beautiful voice soar among the barn’s rafters. Guests reconvened in the barn the following night to dance to the Love Revival Orchestra, who led the entire group from the tent to the barn with a parade!
