Elise and Saleem's Family Retreat-Style Wedding at Big Picture Farm in Townshend, Vermont

This was the best possible way to kick of a season that is likely to be filled with long-awaited hugs and gratitude to gather and celebrate. Elise and Saleem planned a week-long retreat with their immediate families with activities such as pasta and samosa making, and morning group meditation as a way for everyone to know each other, with their wedding right in the middle. By the time I arrived, everyone was super close with each other, and welcomed me to the group with open arms.

Saleem is a photography professor at Temple University, and a talented photographer, so in preparation for their wedding, I studied his style to bring some of his inspiration into my own work. He also carried around a few film cameras throughout the wedding day to document the celebration himself.

If you’ve been following our blog for a while, you know how we’re such big fans of Big Picture Farm, from their caramels to the goats, to Lucas and Louisa, who have lovingly created this Southern Vermont paradise. Every wedding couple we’ve photographed there has creatively celebrated the union of their cultures and heritage, and Elise and Saleem were no exception- this was the first time I had the honor of photographing an Islamic Nikah ceremony, led by Saleem’s mother, and I loved how closely the families were able to gather around Elise and Saleem to take part.

Cheers to a great beginning of what is promising to be a good year!
