Julia and Randy's Colorful Modern Rooftop Wedding in Washington, D.C.

Perhaps the client I’ve known the longest, Julia and I met when she was in my sister’s class in elementary school and was a frequent guest at my house, posing in photos at birthday parties and jumping on our trampoline for many a summer. From the time she was young, Julia had this sweet spirit, never letting anything ruffle her feathers, and has held onto this as she’s grown up, becoming an organized, motivated person who tackles issues without too much worry along the way. When I met Randy last spring to photograph their engagement session at some of the DC monuments, his personality complimented hers perfectly- he’s also motivated and organized, and has this wonderful desire to have fun, seizing the most joy out of every moment he can.

If you want an example of how to gracefully handle several wedding reschedules during a pandemic, look no further than Julia and Randy. Their #1 goal through the entire process was to get married, whatever that was going to look like, and they calmly navigated whatever was thrown at them. When August 21st dawned with perfect weather, all their original vendors in place, and the most beautiful rooftop wedding lounge created in collaboration with Lily and Grayson Events, as their friend, photographer, and cheerleader, I couldn’t have been happier for them. It seemed like the entire city was cheering them on when cars honked and pedestrians yelled “congratulations” and “oh you look so good!” as they walked back to the Line Hotel from All Souls Unitarian Church, where they were married. Guests safely celebrated via their own pod lounges and played games on the roof during cocktail hour as Julia and Randy’s dog, Wilson, walked around to beg for appetizers from guests.

The wait was absolutely worth it for these friends of mine, and I felt so honored to get to photograph their day!
