Janet and Gray's Fun-Loving, Handmade Wedding at Basin Harbor in Vergennes, Vermont
There are plenty of things about Janet and Gray’s wedding day that would make it memorable. First off, the unseasonably warm, gorgeous weather that perpetuated throughout the weekend (just a few years earlier, we saw snow this same weekend). Then, the adorable, family-made details spread throughout the wedding, such as the handmade flower girl dresses, the flowers (arranged by Janet’s Aunt, a professional florist in Maine), and the “party shirts” that Gray and his groomsmen sported underneath their jackets (the cats in space one was our favorite, as you’ll see below). There were the Jurassic Park references, including the theme song that played when Janet walked down the aisle, and the dinosaur cake. How about the fact that everyone stayed throughout the entire night to pack the dance floor from beginning to end?
Beyond all these things, what will stick with us the most, are Janet and Gray themselves. The best way to get a sense of who they are is the way their family and friends reacted to them throughout the day. During toasts, their friends didn’t talk about their achievements (Janet’s an ER nurse, and Gray’s an Air Force pilot) or the exotic places they’ve traveled, but rather, the way they treat people with respect, their propensity for fun, and how everyone wants to be around them. We loved watching the way they ran up to old friends with excitement and how they doted on their nieces. We’re a little bummed they don’t live closer, as we’d be dragging them to our house every month or so to share some drinks and a laugh or three.
