Sunrise session at the Grand Canyon

We've had a whirlwind week- last weekend at this time we were in Flagstaff, Arizona getting ready to photograph Danika and David's outdoor wedding at the Flagstaff Nordic Center. In the past week we've photographed a wedding, designed our website, and readjusted to Eastern time, among other things.

A highlight of the week was something that we were not exactly looking forward to: getting up at 4:45 am after a long day before of shooting to photograph Danika and David at sunrise. We weren't even sure if they were up to it- after dancing the night away at their reception to an incredible bluegrass band and making the 90 minute trek from the reception to the Grand Canyon Lodge. When we both rolled into the parking lot for Shoshone Point at 5:15 with the predawn light illuminating the Ponderosa Pines, we knew it was going to be a once in a lifetime shoot.

Danika walked the mile trek down the dirt service road, and the rocky trail down to Shoshone point in sparkly jelly sandals one of her bridesmaids, Morgan, had given her the night before. She kept her hair in a simple hairstyle for the wedding she was able to easily replicate for the 5 am shoot, and carried with her a number of things dear to her that we were able to use for the shoot.

It was incredible to be able to watch the sun rise over the Grand Canyon and over Danika and David's first day as a married couple!
